Rummy’s Word Games

by Sean Hackbarth

Donald Rumsfeld is a great Secretary of Defense. Not perfect. But still great. His press conferences will go down as some of the most lively and forceful in D.C. history. Still, he gets goofy like when he refuses to call Iraqi insurgents “insurgents:”

“I’ve thought about it. And, over the weekend, I thought to myself, you know, that gives them a greater legitimacy than they seem to merit,” Rumsfeld said.

Rumsfeld instead referred to the guerrillas in Iraq as “the terrorists” and “the enemies of the government.” U.S. military statements also have referred to insurgents as “anti-Iraqi forces.”

During the briefing, the top U.S. military officer, Marine Corps Gen. Peter Pace, slipped up twice and said “insurgent.” With Rumsfeld standing at his side, Pace told reporters, “I have to use the word ‘insurgent’ because I can’t think of a better word right now.”

“‘Enemies of the legitimate Iraqi government’ — how’s that?” Rumsfeld told Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Moments later, Pace again referred to “the insurgents,” then told his boss, “Sorry, sir. I’m not trainable today.”

Eloquent? No. Silly? Yes.

Rumfeld is also remembered for this wordy mess (which actually makes sense):

that say that something hasn’t happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns — the ones we don’t know we don’t know.

Liberals (DJ included) love to try and Dominate the English Language through Bombardment and it works for the unwary.

Even I slip up and sometimes say “occupation” instead of “liberation.”

Liberals = Occupation
Liberals = Insurgency
Liberals = Presence of U.S. Troops

And all sorts of things…

Conservatives = Liberation
Conservatives = Terrorist Enemies of Iraqi Forces
Conservatives = Assistance of Allied Troops

Notice how I change U.S. troops to Allied?

We are an Allied Troop force in Iraq because of nations like Australia and Brittain and the nations of the block that used to be part of the former U.S.S.R. (so on and so forth).

Liberals have their own personal agenda to try and “deny” the truth. They hate it when people expose the truth and so they try and dominate the English language through bombardment in News Articles and T.V. Reports in hope to have to never hear anyone say the proper truth.

Maybe Rumsfeld needs to clear his nomenclature with Condi Rice, who just the other day not only agreed that attacks against US troops constituted an insurgency, but came right out and declared that Iraqis had a legitimate right to kill American soldiers.

But hey, you know, Republicans love the troops, right?

It’s amazing, Jeff. It’s like you intercepted this month’s copy of Underground Liberal Conspiracy Monthly, of which i am a proud subscriber. This issue’s cover story, “Domination of the English Language Through Bombardment and How it works On the Unwary” was almost word-for-word exactly like your post! You sure have the collective numbers of my faceless horde of allies and myself.

4

Chet, care to share a legit link, there? That crazy Condi.

DJ,

I believe that either I have read that or I have read something else similar. Either way, I have definitely read someone talking about the topic I am describing.

Rush Limbaugh spends a lot of his time putting together audio sound bytes showing the Liberal Mainstream Media from across several T.V. Stations repeating the same word, phrase, sentence, you name it.

The Liberals are well known for “slogans” and they use them all of the time.

One such audio sound byte that was done was a sound byte showing multiple T.V. Reporters saying, “The drumbeat to Syria,”
shortly after we liberated Iraq.

I mean to say this doesn’t happen is to deny the truth. Give me one liberal source that calls the Iraq Liberation a Liberation DJ (without any cynicalness or sarcasm).

The latest “English Bombardment” by the liberal left today (after President Bush’s speech) is to say,
“President Bush has a timetable for withdrawl…”

If I had a VCR to record all of the liberal lefties saying this exact sentence and I had your address to mail this VCR tape off to you then you’d understand.

Of course DJ…

DJ… If you knew what was good for you, you would tune into MSNBC and CNN and count for yourself how many times, “President Bush has a timetable for withdrawl…” is repeated.

Oh and President Bush DOES NOT have a timetable for withdrawl, but the liberals are using this slogan to try and make the public warm up to withdrawl.

8

DJ, my subscription to Underground Liberal Conspiracy Monthly ran out. Could I have one of your subscription cards?

Sean, i have a few extra in by backpack; i’ll shoot one your way.

Jeff, find me a right-wing media source that refers to the “Occupation of Iraq.” Or one that hasn’t said, “cutting and running would embolden and send comfort to the terrorists.” Both sides use their own slanted buzzwords, so i don’t see your point. But keep ranting, because it’s hilarious. To me. Keep saying my name, too, because i’m an egomaniac and you’re emboldening my head.

Ooo. I feel like Peyton Manning after he got his melon autographed.

I thought there were a few different factions in Iraq, one could be called insurgents since it is made up predominantly of Iraqis who are fighting against the Allied troops in Iraq.

Another group would be called terrorists since they are mostly from outside of Iraq and are fighting against the democracy that is being built in Iraq.

These two factions aren’t necessarily allied, I recall some story about troops coming upon the two groups shooting at each other instead of them…

That “known unknowns” speech is frickin’ awesome. Like, “strategery” awesome, or “I voted for it before I voted against it” awesome, or pretty much anybody doing a Clinton impersonation.

Chet, legit. Specifically, “Being in accordance with established or accepted patterns and standards: legitimate advertising practices.
Based on logical reasoning; reasonable: a legitimate solution to the problem. ” Go ahead, give it another shot.

“Chet, legit. Specifically, “Being in accordance with established or accepted patterns and standards: legitimate advertising practices.

In other words, “post something from a right-wing source.” I knew she was gonna take issue with your kos link, Chet. Ah well.

14

Eh, Dr. Rice’s comments are on the public record. They’re not something that was made up at Daily Kos. But that’s where I read about them, so that’s the link I had.

TB, I don’t really give a good goddamn if you find it “legit” or not. If you set your evidentiary standards so high that they can’t be met in this forum, then you shouldn’t ask for the evidence to be presented here. You’re just setting up a position of invincible ignorance.
