Netroots to Waste Time Google Bombing

by Sean Hackbarth

You can’t say the Left blogosphere isn’t creative. MyDD’s Chris Bowers wants to game Google calling it “Google Bombing The Election:”

[T]his project will help push the most negative article written by a non-partisan media source on all key Republican candidates to the forefront of any search for that candidate. The negative article will appear both high on all Google searches for the candidates, and as an advertisement that appears whenever anyone searches for that candidate. By giving this article two prominent locations on Google searches for the candidate, and because it will come from a non-partisan source, it will increase the likelihood that the article will be seen and trusted by those searching for information on the candidate.

The “netroots” found this story bashing John Gard.

Ever since Howard Dean, M.D. came out of nowhere the “progressive” netroots think internet technology is their competitive advantage. Maybe in 5-10 more years when network television loses even more of its audience to new media then I’ll consider seriously such an audacious scheme. There’s a reason so much campaign money goes into tv commercials. Blue Crab Boulevard talks about the Republican’s “real ground game.” While the netroots plays with Google the GOP is “micro-targeting” voters with their Voter Vault. The party can also track how many calls have been made and doors knocked. That tech tool has pushed the Republicans into the lead in Get Out The Vote (GOTV) efforts.

UPDATE: Matt Margolis writes,

It appears the liberal nutroots have settled on their strategy for victory for November… Is it get-out-the-vote efforts? No. Is it a letter to the editor campaign in support of Democrat candidates? No. Is it volunteering at phone banks for their Democrat candidates? No.

Their strategy for November: Google-bombing the election with anti-Republican rhetoric.

John Hawkins is taking the Google bombing seriously and started a counter-offensive.
