Speaker Hoyer? One Can Dream

by Sean Hackbarth

It would be hilarious if the House Republicans conspired–I mean engaged in bipartisanship–to deny Rep. Nancy Pelosi the Speakership. With one quick swoop the impression that Democrats could govern themselves let alone the nation would vanish. And that’s why a Speaker Hoyer is just wishful thinking even if it would make for hilarious political comedy.

Instead we’ll have Pelosi ending up letting a crook lead the intelligence committee all because the ranking Democrat, Rep. Jane Harman, wasn’t tough enough on President Bush. Oh, and Harman’s too moderate. Guess we can toss that “govern from the center” rhetoric out the window.

“GOP Members Should Be Bipartisan

UPDATE: Captain Ed covers Pelosi’s other initial misstep, backing Rep. John Murtha over Steny Hoyer for Majority Leader. He agrees with Rep. Charlie Rangle of all people: “Just as the Republicans are foolish for supporting the same leadership that led them to electoral disaster, the Democrats have no real reason to switch horses after such a significant victory.”
