Who invented the POLL Tax?

Democrats.

Who continues to blame the Republicans for Jim Crow Laws that the Democrats enacted?

Democrats.

2

Well, where did all those poll-taxing, segregating former Democrats go after they left the Democratic party?

The Republicans, of course.

3

Hey Jeff?

Keep slamming the Democrats for stuff they did back when they were repressive and conservative and the Republicans were the progressive party. Seriously, it cracks me up. That kind of humor you don’t need to learn from a book, because it’s what we call “unintentionally funny.”

WRONG!!!

The Democrats that moved to the Republican party (after the fact) did so, because they started to question their original stance.

The most famous Senator (passed away now) that switched from the Democrats to the Republican Party, did so because he eventually came to terms with the Civil Rights act and actually supported the Civil Rights act (after the fact) of its passing.

Only as a DEMOCRAT was there opposition in these politician’s minds.

As soon as their opinion changed, they switched parties!

Go back and check out the percentage of Republicans supporting the Civil Rights Act versus the Democrats.

How can it be that a Democrat (against the Civil Rights Act)
would switch to a political party (Republicans) that overwhelmingly supported the Civil Rights act?

You would think they would switch to become an “Independant” instead (or third party).

You obviously don’t know what “conservatism” is to make a comment like that.

It is not conservative to be in favor of POLL Taxes.

Why?

Because Conservatives believe in smaller government, less regulation. Less regulation is not just about businesses. It is also about the Individual.

Conservatism is an Individualistic Philosophy.

The idea of POLL TAXES is very much a “Groupism” philosophy where by you attempt to isolate the Poor People from the Well To Do for political gain, and for racial discrimination.

Knowing full well a certain race is not going to vote for you and they are poor, you treat the race as a (Group) and apply a Poll Tax and other Jim Crow Laws to disenfranchise that (Group).

Conservatism doesn’t believe in (Grouping) people together.

It’s why we have a hard time getting people to our side that have lived in a (Groupism) psychological manner.

Those who supported POLL TAXES did so because they were Liberals.

Also,

A lot of MYTH concerning the Republican / Democrats of the past being different than Republican / Democrats of the present has to be stopped as well.

What we know is the Republicans were in favor of higher taxation back in the 60s. Democrats believed in across the board tax-cuts.

But, we are talking about John F. Kennedy and an era of political transition.

My contention is that the Civil Rights Act and other factors tilted the scales to make the Republican Party the more Conservative Party and the Democrats the more Liberal.

The myth is to suggest that 100% of all Republicans were Liberal before the transition period and 100% of Democrats were Conservative and then just over-night one day the roles reversed themselves.

That I don’t believe was ever the case. I think some aspects of Conservatism (modern conservatism) was already present in the Republican Party prior to the transistion period.

The thing to remmeber is that Republicans overwhelmingly supported the Civil Rights Act and they were the party of eliminating Slavery.

Democrats had Southern Democrats fighting for slavery and then fighting against the Civil Rights Act and putting Jim Crow Laws to life.

The liberalism was already present in the Democrat Party.

There was no Over-Night Switching of roles.

Rather, the political priorities changed and that just strengthend the Conservative side of Republicans, and Strengthened the Liberal side of Democrats.

And those who supported Democrats like Ronald Reagon were left in the dark when their political party started heading into the LEFT so far as to be unrecognizeable of what they used to be.

The only reason Democrats were seen as the “Champion of Civil Rights” was because John F. Kennedy was a Democrat.

Not because the Republicans or “Conservatives” were against the Civil Rights Act. Not at all. Even today many Conservatives say (including myself). “Affirmative Action was a good idea in the beginning but it was changed into something harmful later.”

I never would have been against Affirmative Action if I lived in the era of the 1960s. I wouldn’t have.

There was a need to counteract the obvious discrimination that existed and people needed to feel more “secure” about their country and their way of life.

No.. I don’t buy into this MYTH of 2 Political Parties swapping Party Platforms.

Hey, that’s fine, Jeff. Just keep telling yourself that Bob Corker didn’t just win back his senate seat by playing jungle drums at every mention of his black opponent’s name, or insinuating that Ford’s first action in office would be to have sex with “dem white wimmens.”

It’s called “The Southern Strategy.” Why do you think Republicans found it so easy to adopt? Because that’s where all those racists wound up.

Chet,

I don’t know much about what you are talking about (at all) having never heard that in the news.

But, how can you stand there all smug when Robert Byrd is in your Party?

You know? Mr. Klu Klux Klansmen.

“I don’t know much about what you are talking about (at all) having never heard that in the news.”

I’ve noticed you don’t know much, period. Byrd joined the Klan because they opposed communism. Sounds like you’d fit right in, Jeff.
