Iraq Study Group Report Released

by Sean Hackbarth

This morning James Baker, Lee Hamilton, and their gang have released their Iraq Study Group Report. In it is much that’s been leaked: more diplomacy with Iran and Syria, more training of Iraqi security and military forces, and pressure on the Iraqi government to get their act together. Israelis aren’t thrilled with Baker and scoff at the Israel-Palestine question as the lynch pin to Middle East peace.

Mary Katherine Ham is collecting blogosphere reaction. There’s little giddiness on the right. Let me point out Cliff May’s reaction [via Greg Tinti]. He worked on one of the ISG’s study groups:

On the plus side this report is not a recommendation to move out of Iraq; it’s explicitly a a recommendation for “moving forward” in Iraq.

On the negative side: It’s very mushy.
