TAM Music Awards 2006
by Sean Hackbarth
The year isn’t complete without some TAM Awards. These are the most arbitrary awards in the entire blogosphere. The only criteria is I think these were the best albums, books, and weblogs of 2006. There are no nominations and all decisions are final. Like everything, there’s always next year. Let’s start with the best albums of 2006:
- Colorblind by Robert Randolph and the Family Band. On their third album (second studio) they move away from the meandering jams to tighter, pop songs. There’s lots of funk, soul, blues, and rock. It’s a little too slick with the production covering up Randolph’s awesome pedal steel guitar. Still, I’ll be listen to this album years from now.
- St. Elsewhere by Gnarls Barkley. “Crazy” was the best song of 2006. It was so catchy. It drilled itself into your skull after one listen. The rest of the album doesn’t let up with great singing and amazing production.
- Under the Influence of Giants by Under the Influence of Giants. This debut fuses the Bee Gees with alternative music. It’s groovy and rocks.
