Picking on Pelosi?

by Sean Hackbarth

A few commenters think I’m being so unfair toward Speaker Pelosi. Chet claims I “clipped one frame out of a series of gestures.” I didn’t watch the House’s opening ceremony. But I doubt it was just a gesture. Here’s another picture:

If it was only a clip Pelosi liked it enough to do the pose again today.

Reuters’ caption reads, “U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) flexes her arm at an ‘Open House for the People’s House’ event the day after Democrats officially took control of the U.S. Congress on Capitol Hill in Washington, January 5, 2007.”

Charles Atlas is born again!

If I were mean I’d mention “facelift” in the same breath as Pelosi. I could get really mean and nickname Pelosi “Plasticwoman.” If I were really, really mean I’d start a weekly Pelosi caption contest with this picture.

Where have those hands been?

And if I were really, really, really mean I’d declare Speaker Pelosi Greta Van Susteren’s grandmother.

I won’t because I’m a nice guy, a gentle soul, who hopes the Democrats finally see the light and understand the meaning of limited government. Because I’m such a nice guy here’s a great picture from Speaker Pelosi’s swearing in surrounding by a bunch of kids.

UPDATE: YouTube didn’t let me down. I found a clip of Speaker Pelosi receiving the gavel. The best part was Rep. Dennis Hastert sulking in the back barely clapping.

With that attitude he shouldn’t have even showed up. He could have pulled a Sen. Johnson or something.

Haha. I can’t help but giggle at that shot of Hastert.

Looks like the Dems are on their way to restoring fiscal responsibility with approving the restoration of the “pay as you go” rule. Seems like a good start.

As the WSJ editorial page put it paygo won’t reduce spending (especially current entitlement spending) but will certainly stop more tax cuts. It’s obvious the Democrats care little for limited government.

3

Well, ask me to choose defecit spending over spending on a balanced budget and i’ll tell you what i’ll pick every time.

4

Ah yes, Republican myth #256: “PAYGO doesn’t reduce spending.”

5

Spending won’t go down with the Democrats in power. It doesn’t go down PERIOD! That’s a damn shame.

Spending won’t go down with the Democrats in power.

What are you smoking, exactly?

Sean, please clarify something for me: are you in favor of PAYGO in principle, but are just concerned that it won’t curb spending, or are you opposed to it because it’s better to spend and spend and pass the cost to future generations?

If you ask me, anything that reinforces the fact that, say, $100 billion dollars spent on Iraq has to come from somewhere is something i’m going to support. After all, weren’t we told back in 2003 that Iraq’s oil was going to pay for this war itself? And isn’t it, well, not?

I’ll put it another way. Had the American people been told in 2003, “We’re going into Iraq, and it will be a long, difficult struggle, AND we’re going to increase taxes to pay for it because we don’t want to go into the red,” would you have supported it?
