Pelosi’s Office: Remember Harry Whittington!

by Sean Hackbarth

What special events will Speaker Pelosi be planning for 02.11.07? What’s so special about that date? It’s the first anniversary of Vice President Dick Cheney shooting his hunting partner Harry Whittington.

Bipartisanship at its best.

That’s so stupid/funny. I can’t believe they think that by choosing the anniversary of a hunting accident that has pretty much nothing to do with Bush, or the country in general that they’re making some sort of grand political statement.

Seriously, only people with an unhealthy obsession with Bush and Cheney would even remember that date as an anniversary of any significance.

It’s like saying that tomorrow is the anniversary of when I stubbed my toe, as if it was meaningful and important.

So, why is this news? Why is there an implication that putting that on the calendar (if they did…has this shown up anywhere other than that Corpus Christi paper’s website?) was anything but a harmless joke?

I love love love the funny inherent in how people on the right are watching the Dems like hawks for the slightest, most insignificant hint of partisanship so they can howl “hey! They said they were gonna be less childish than we were for 12 years, and now they’re not! MOMMY!!”

Someone wanna explain to me why this is news? Why the assumption is automatically that it’s representative of some sort of partisan mean-spiritedness and not as a harmless joke? Someone wanna confirm it’s even true, since i can’t find anything online other than the story Sean linked?

I love love love the funny inherent in how conservatives have been watching Dems like a hawk for any minor or insignificant evidence of perceived partisanship, so they can scream “hey! The Dems said they were gonna act more like grownups that the Republicans did for 12 years, and now they’re just acting like the Republicans did! MOMMY! MOMMY! THE BAD PEOPLE IN CHARGE ARE ACTING LIKE WE DID! WAAAAAAH!” Whether or not that’s even the case.

To be fair it’s just on a calendar. The Democrats haven’t done anything…yet. With this news they probably won’t do anything. So it’s just a minor funny moment from Wacky Washington.

If you go to the Speaker’s website, or to the Majority Leader’s website, the 2007 calendar available for download has no mention of anything on Feb. 11th. Is this the same calendar that was supposedly emailed out?

Even if this is true, it’s much ado about nothing. I’ve been incredibly amused by the way conservatives have been watching Dems like a hawk to catch the slightest, most insignificant whiff of partisanship, so they can scream at the top of their lungs, “HEY! The Dems said they’d act more grown-up than the Repubs did for 12 years, and they’re obviously being just as childish as the GOP was! MOMMY! MOMMY! THEY LIED! WAAAAAAAH!” Etc. etc.
