Inexperienced Obama Hopes Lincoln Rubs Off on Him

by Sean Hackbarth

Ok, Sen. Obama joined the Presidential party. He made his announcement in Springfield, IL where Abraham Lincoln gave his “House Divided” speech. Obama is obviously trying to link himself with another President who lacked executive experience. However, the platitudes he delivered don’t come close to convincing me he’s Presidential material. He might get the Democratic nomination, he might even win the election in 2008, but yearning for change in Washington, D.C. is no guarantee it will be achieved.

What do you think a President needs to do that Obama hasn’t ever done? The experience thing is a non-issue.

The man hasn’t run an organization of significant size. He’s never been a governor, mayor, businessman, soldier, etc.

Any Leftist that decried President Bush for only being a governor–and one with limited powers as some critics explained–should explain what makes Obama’s experience so special.

A leader is more than a pretty face and a good delivery. Obama’s a rock star for his potential more than anything he’s ever achieved.

If we’re gonna compare Obama to Bush:

-Bush proved before being elected that anything he “ran” would be run into the ground. Or was there a business he ran that didn’t have to be bailed out financially by his dad’s pals? (He wasn’t the only one running the Texas Rangers, so that hardly counts.)

-Between the two, i would prefer someone who spent time in the inner cities getting his hands dirty with the poor, trying to make the world a better place first-hand than a coddled rich kid who never spent a minute of his life trying to genuinely improve things while daddy cleaned up his messes.

I’ll grant you that speechifying doesn’t = competent chief executive potential. But someone who continues to stick up for the failed policies of the failed businessman currently occupying the White House doesn’t have much of a leg to stand on when it comes to evaluating the potential of the 2008 contenders.

All that said, i’m still bummed that no one is talking about Bill Richardson. Centrist, governor, neck-deep in foreign policy credentials. If experience matters, this guy’s the top candidate in my book.

Well, as a former board member of the Joyce Foundation, at least he knows how to fund terro-environmentalism and anti-gun clap-trap.

So he’s got that going for him.

FWIW, former WI gov Tony Earl now sits on Joyce’s board. ‘at ought to tell you something.

In addition to running the Harvard Law Review and teaching Constitutional law at the University of Chicago, he’s chaired several committees.

It’s not like the guy’s a cypher, or that there’s anything unknown about his management style. As for being “anti-gun”, or whatever, Chicago’s Fraternal Order of Police praised his stance on gun issues on several occasions. I guess you can decide for yourself if policemen are, in general, anti-gun nuts.

MjM, what’s your evidence that the Joyce Foundation is involved in terrorism? I couldn’t find any.

What exactly is “terro-environmentalism” other than polysyllabic?

Tony Earl is supposed to tell me what?

What exactly is “terro-environmentalism” other than polysyllabic?

Well, it’s loaded conservative rhetoric, of course!
