How Did the GOP Debate Go?

by Sean Hackbarth

Seeing Robert Randolph was my alternative to the GOP Presidential debate last night. I haven’t seen anything other than a few video clips from MSNBC’s website.

From some reaction I read late last night Tommy Thompson was bad. Very bad. Really bad. Really, really bad. I mean really awful. He couldn’t have been that bad, could he? I’ll have to watch it soon to see if he was as much of a train wreck as it sounds like.

What’s your assessment? Who won? Who lost?

I heard Fred Thompson won hands down.

As do I.

All we really saw last night was all of the contestants trying to lay claim to the mantle of Ronald Reagan and failing miserably… mostly because they make it startlingly clear they haven’t a clue as to what it was the Reagan revolution was about.

That Romney… hardly the best qualified… won in such a contest shows how badly they all fared.

Yes, Tommy was that bad. Maybe worse. He’s never been much of a public speaker, but he was borderline incoherent most of the debate.

Romney’s beginning to remind me of the GOP version of Edwards - primped up, spewing nice, pander-to-crowd quotes. McCain wasn’t perfect, but he sure came across as much more authentic to me.

Of the lesser knowns, I thought Duncan did very well.
