MSM Bash Bush for Gaffe that Wasn’t
Yes, President Bush is the worst-speaking President in my lifetime. Living through Reagan and Clinton spoiled me. But the guy gets a raw deal from the MSM for slips from his tongue. On its front page the Washington Post declared Bush committed a “royal faux pas” by almost getting the year wrong of when Queen Elizabeth visited the U.S. for the bicentennial:
Expressing admiration for her long friendship with the United States, Bush noted that Elizabeth had dined with 10 presidents and had “helped our nation celebrate its bicentennial in 17 . . .” He quickly caught and corrected his mistake, “in 1976.”
Her Majesty did not appear to be amused.
Laughter rippled across the South Lawn, but the queen, who celebrated her 81st birthday last month, shot Bush a look that he sheepishly acknowledged “only a mother could give a child.”
The man corrected himself in mid-sentence. Give Bush a little credit. He didn’t make up a word.
How about accusing the queen of being too sensitive? For just ignore it for the meaningless “story” that it is? No, can’t do that. It would deviate from the “Bush is an idiot” frame the MSM enjoys reinforcing.

But the real question remains:
Is our presidents learning?
