Redstate Flexes Its Muscle
As Redstate’s managing editor Erick Erickson put it,
The House Republican Leadership just does not get it and they will not take us seriously until we flex our muscle against them. We must fight the House GOP and we must fight today.
He’s declared war on the House GOP for putting Rep. Ken Calvert on the Appropriations Committee. It’s replacing one ethically-challenged Congressman for another. Calvert has been accused of pushing an earmark that improved the value of a land parcel he co-owned as well as brought a commission into his real estate firm.
He wants conservatives to call members of the House Republican Steering Committee to demand Calvert be removed from the Appropriations Committee. Erickson threatens, “House GOP will get no support until Ken Calvert is off Appropriations.”
Not since the outcry over Harriet Meyers’ nomination to the Supreme Court have conservative online activists made a move against the GOP. This time Erickson is fighting against corruption. While the netroots hammers those Democrats about giving even the slightest inch to President Bush on Iraq War funding a conservative is going after GOP corruption. It means the online Left is less tolerant of policy differences and more accepting of clouds of impropriety hanging over its side (see the lack of cries for Rep. William Jefferson’s removal from a House homeland security committee).
