Democrats About to Give into Bush on Iraq Funding

by Sean Hackbarth

The AP reports Congressional Democrats will give into President Bush and send him an Iraq War funding bill that had no timelines or pork:

In grudging concessions to President Bush , Democrats intend to draft an Iraq war-funding bill without a timeline for the withdrawal of U.S. troops and shorn of billions of dollars in spending on domestic programs, officials said Monday.

While details remain subject to change, the measure is designed to close the books by Friday on a bruising veto fight between Bush and the Democratic-controlled Congress over the war. It would provide funds for military operations in Iraq through Sept. 30, the end of the fiscal year.

Democratic officials stressed the legislation was subject to change. They spoke on condition of anonymity, saying they were not authorized to discuss provisions before a planned presentation to members of the party‘s rank and file later in the day.

President Bush must find the veto a pretty powerful tool.

UPDATE: Ed Morrissey expects the reaction from the Left netroots to make the Right’s blow up over the immigration bill look as quaint as a second grade slumber party.

If this is true there will not be enough popcorn in the world for those of us on the right to enjoy, while watching the Kos Kids lose their ever loving minds

It is kind of a shame that the President could not have found this back bone when it came to the other congresses he has dealt with ie out of control spending etc.

He should veto this as well.

The Dems want their minimum wage bill in this as well.

Give me a damned war funding bill that is just a war funding bill, nothing else no pork.

If he wants to make some seperate deal on minimum wage fine, but draw the line here and set the precident that we are not playing politics on Commander in Chief issues.

Too bad the last three Republican congresses couldn’t do the same thing.

But I guess IOKIYAR.

And Bush is making a compromise by agreeing to benchmarks for the Iraqi government.

If this report is true, Sen. Edwards will have a field day on the campaign trail.
