O’Reilly Worried about “White, Christian, Male Power Structure”

by Sean Hackbarth

On the immigration debate what has made me feel uncomfortable with the “secure the borders” hardliners is some want a limit on legal immigration along with enforcing the law on the illegal immigrants currently in the U.S. Right Wing News‘ John Hawkins told Ed Morrissey that’s what he wanted. Building a fence isn’t enough.

My problem isn’t immigration per se it’s those who come here ignoring United States law. They demand the right to work but fail to respect the rule of law. People are a resource. So many coming to the U.S. to work is high praise for the power of our economy.

The fear that the U.S. will become crowded and newcomers won’t assimilate is disturbing. What’s more disturbing than this soft xenophobia is Bill O’Reilly worried about the “white, Christian, male power structure” under assault. Here’s a portion of a conversation between the cable talk yapper and Sen. John McCain:

O’REILLY: But do you understand what the New York Times wants, and the far-left want? They want to break down the white, Christian, male power structure, which you’re a part, and so am I, and they want to bring in millions of foreign nationals to basically break down the structure that we have. In that regard, Pat Buchanan is right. So I say you’ve got to cap with a number.

MCCAIN: In America today we’ve got a very strong economy and low unemployment, so we need addition farm workers, including by the way agriculture, but there may come a time where we have an economic downturn, and we don’t need so many.

O’REILLY: But in this bill, you guys have got to cap it. Because estimation is 12 million, there may be 20 [million]. You don’t know, I don’t know. We’ve got to cap it.

MCCAIN: We do, we do. I agree with you.

I could care less about the “white, Christian, male power structure” even if I am white, Christian and male. I could also care less what color an immigrant is. If they enter legally I welcome them with open arms. If they flout the law I want them deported. They can be black, white, brown, yellow, green, purple, it doesn’t matter. Anyone has the free will to respect or not respect immigration law.

As for McCain endorsing O’Reilly’s claim he should be embarrassed. If you ask him straight up if he fears the end of the “white, Christian, male power structure” he’d say no. I’m guessing McCain was focused on the question of a cap. He does need to explain himself.

Do you ever speed to work, Sean?

Should you be deported?

Does one require any more evidence that ol’ Bill is off his rocker?

All I needed was his screaming match with Geraldo to reinforce that.

I’m troubled by that mildly racist undercurrent some take in the immigration debate. It’s gotten so strident that the nuance on the side that wants tougher enforcement is lost. It’s eerily like the anti-war protesters who have no trouble going to rallies sponsored by ANSWER.

He had Michelle Malkin on a couple days ago and sounded even more paranoid about the “white male power structure” being eroded when they were talking. It was actually quite sickening, and she played right into it… which is one of the reasons why I really can’t stand her either.

His xenophobia is really coming out now as he becomes more and more unhinged.

And yet people just eat that shit up. It really makes me sad.

Sadly, I fear that the the undercurrent in question is far more than “mildly” racist–and that isn’t a charge I make lightly.

Well, if you have not heard one way to denounce uncomfortable truths is to say they come from techniques established by dead whie european males.

I am not real keen on O’Reilly I think he is a populist panderer. I support enforced borders and liberal quotas on immigration and the push for amnesty is not popular among legal immigrants who have to jump through a lot of hoops (I know firsthand the hoops helping my wife through them), but I really detest this propensity to use to use slurs such as xenophobe at opposition to liberal immigration policies.

20+ years ago my father was out of gas on a Chicago road and a cop told him unless he spoke Spanish there was no help for him at the next off ramp.

The liberal attitudes we have to immigration are a major factor in the success of the American experiment. At the turn of the Century there are reports of German being widely spoken in Manitowoc but not anymore. We welcome immigrants but if they want to settle here then they have to deal with absorbing American values – values derived from the thoughts of dead white European males. The rule of law, the scientific method, etc. Is that xenophobia?

No. Xenophobia is the next step from that – assuming that they can’t ever absorb those values, and that therefore they should not be allowed in.
