Ron Paul Reportedly Raking in Dough

by Sean Hackbarth

If this Free Market News Network report is correct Rep. Ron Paul will be staying in the race for a while:

Now observers close to the campaign are revealing – with some astonishment – that donations to the campaign in recent weeks have pushed the total up to perhaps $4 or $5 million.

“That’s a huge number at this stage,” says one observer. “That starts to put him in a position where he can compete – state by state, anyway – with the major candidates.”

And this source added, “Of course, it’s hard to tell because the numbers keep changing – and thus nobody at the campaign has a firm count, at least not hour to hour. But the numbers are big. It’s definitely over three, probably over four, and if it hasn’t hit five yet, it will soon.”

At this rate, say observers, Ron Paul could have something like $10 million in his coffers inside of several months, and the total could keep growing – so long as he continues to hit on themes that Americans support – how to return the country to a true, small government, constitutional republic and how to end the war in Iraq.

This means Rudy Giuliani has someone to kick around some more during the GOP debates-that-aren’t.

The only polls Paul has won are those where his internet hoards have stuffed the ballot. They may not be that numerous but they’re certainly passionate.

Andrew Sullivan and Michael van der Galiën find Paul staying in the race as good for philosophical diversity. I, on the other hand, see Paul’s “blame the victim” attitude along with being sympathetic towards Sep. 11 conspiracists as damaging to his brand of libertarianism. The longer Paul stays in the race saying kooky things the more mainstream conservatives will ignore everything his says, both the good and bad.

Please do not exaggerate Paul’s fundraising so as not to disappoint. Yes it’s going well, but do not bandy about numbers unless you have proof positive. It can only hurt the campaign by feeding the media who say Paul isn’t a blip worth reporting about.

Please try not to mis categorize what Mr. Paul says it does not serve your credibility. He never blamed the victim for starters. He is blaming the foreign policy which in the last 5o years has been disgraceful. That is not a doing of the american people but rather politicians who whore themselves to special interest groups especially oil. Its the policies he would change and we would do well to help him accomplish that. I will not for myself but for my child and his children. As so far as stuffing ballots, I am and have been an IT professional for over 25 years and i have checked and double checked that on nearly every poll that i could and have not seen that as a possibility.;

Probably spam dollar bills…this Ron Paul thing has to be some form of…INTERNET TERRORISM. They hate us for our freedoms. http://www.ihateronpaul.com - join the club.

And as long as Ron Paul is in the race, the longer Bush loyalists and so-called “conservatives” will continue to mangle his views by claiming he’s “blaming the victim.” Seriously, have you actually listened to anything he’s said with an open mind, Sean? I really doubt you have.

You use the “blame the victim” buzz phrase conveniently to advance your own opinions. You claim that Ron Paul is “blaming the victim,” but when the CIA confirms that Valerie Plame was covert, you shift the blame for her outing to her husband. Had he not questioned the official story, she would never have been outed in retaliation. How is that not “blaming the victim?” Very convenient usage of your buzzowrds.

Wow…just wow. You really think Dr. Paul is blaming the victims of 9/11? You can’t be serious. Did you even watch the debates or do any research before you wrote this?

CIA reports, the 9/11 commission reports, and even the terrorists support Dr. Paul’s claim that our foreign policy has to be fixed. What evidence do the neo-cons have? Oh yeah….fear and a lot of it.

“The longer Paul stays in the race saying kooky things…”

What I find amusing when you, and the other americanmind article you linked to, try to paint RP as a whacko is that you never support by (gasp!) cutting and pasting those kooky things into the article.

Why’s that? Hint: when Michelle Malkin and friends at Fox slanderously accused him of being a 9/11 conspiracy theorist, why didn’t they use, you know, footage of him saying that stuff?

Fine, I’ll give you the answer: there isn’t any. He isn’t a 9/11 conspiracy theorist, he doesn’t “blame the victim” and he doesn’t say “kooky things”.

You say Ron has a “blame the victim” attitude? Well, I guess the CIA and 9/11 commission report both have that blame the victim attitude because both back up what Paul is saying; American foreign policy has a lot to do with people attitudes towards us.

I recommend you read Rogue Nation: American Unilateralism and the Failure of Good Intentions

It talks about how our foreign policy is made for good but actually harms other countries, it gives many examples…

Ron’s gonna win the nomination. You can sense the panic among the Republican Party fat cats — they’re not scared he’d lose the general election, they’re scared he’d win it! Which he most likely would.
