Karl Rove’s E-Mail Addiction

by Sean Hackbarth

Rep. Henry Waxman’s House Oversight Committee issued a report on White House officials using RNC e-mail accounts for official government business. Besides the possible violation of the Presidential Records Act what’s really interesting is how much of an e-mail junkie Karl Rove is:

The RNC has preserved 140,216 e-mails sent or received by Karl Rove. Over half of these e-mails (75,374) were sent to or received from individuals using official “.gov” e-mail accounts.

Later on the report reads, “RNC has preserved only 130 e-mails sent to Mr. Rove during President Bush’s first term and no e-mails sent by Mr. Rove prior to November 2003.”

Let’s be conservative and assume 140,216 e-mails cover Rove’s entire time working in the White House. That comes out to 59 e-mails received or sent every single day. And that’s undercounting significantly. We don’t know how many e-mails were destroyed by RNC tech heads.

How many BlackBerrys did Rove go through? Was he getting the shakes when R.I.M. was almost shut down by a federal judge?

By sending and receiving all that e-mail Rove might have the strongest thumbs in Washington. Don’t challenge him to a thumb wrestling contest.

One more question: What percentage of the e-mails were from Nigeria?
