Bush Justices Lead to First Amendment Protection

Don Surber on the Supreme Court defending political speech today and a certain unpopular President:

Justice Sandra Day O’Connor wrote the 2003 decision. She left in 2005 and originally was to be replaced by John Roberts, who wrote today’s majority opinion. That was the difference: Roberts for O’Connor. Say what you want about President Bush: He brought sanity back to the Supremes.

The concurring opinion gets at the heart of the matter: The restoration of the right to tell your elected officials they suck. In the name of protecting the public from Big Dollar Campaign Spending, Congress silenced the public.

And in fact, the new law made the Fat Cats even more powerful.

Bush gave conservatives two conservative justices and still got raked over the coals. That tells you how important an issue illegal immigration is.

Today’s Supreme Court rulings: Money is speech, student banners aren’t. At least the Court knows what side their bread is buttered on, eh?

John Roberts is looking like the best appointment to the Court in generations.

Common sense tells me students don’t have the same free speech rights as an adult. Teachers have a responsibility to maintain order in a school.

Most college students are legal adults.

Bah. Early morning. The kid was in high school but was 18.
