Iraqi Parliament Goes on Vacation

The Iraqi government really doesn’t understand the situation with U.S. troops. They don’t know how tenuous it is. The surge may be having some positive effects, but it was designed to give the government breathing room to accomplish some political goals. So what does the Iraqi parliament do instead of dealing with an oil law [...]

Milwaukee County Still Crushed by Pensions

Anytime you hear people complaining about Milwaukee County services being cut say one word, “pensions.” A few years ago the administration and county board let county workers reap great sums in retirement benefits. The county still suffers from those people padding their pockets at taxpayers’ expense:
Hundreds of Milwaukee County workers have pumped up their pensions [...]

Tom Snyder Dead at 71

Famed late-night television talk show host Tom Snyder died at 71. Interestingly he started his career in local radio in Milwaukee.
Snyder was a solid interviewer. He wasn’t flashing, trying to be a comedian. That was Johnny Carson’s job. Yet Snyder wasn’t as dead pan as Dick Cavet.
Godspeed, Tom.

Pill-Popping Pigeons

Why let a gun get in the way of the sexual revolution? Hollywood will distribute birth control to control the pigeon problem. It keeps PETA happy which is all that matters. It won’t satisfy the anti-chemical zealots who prefer avian condoms.

Newt Won’t Defend Gonzales

On Fox News Sunday Newt Gingrich wouldn’t defend Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

Think Progress posted the transcript:
Both the president and country are better served if the attorney general is a figure of competence. Sadly, the current attorney general is not seen as any of those things. I think it’s a liability for the president. More importantly, [...]

Will They Let the Hot Dog Speak?

I was browsing through the submitted questions for the Republican CNN/YouTube debate. Most of them aren’t bad. Most are loaded; you know what kind of answer the questioner wants to hear. But isn’t that a lot like real life? I seldom encounter a person asking a question who doesn’t have at least a tiny bit [...]

Instant Scarcity

Upper Deck and Donruss both announced they would pull Michael Vick football cards out of upcoming sets. Some cards will come out. Much of supply and demand is due to scarcity. These cards will be very scarce. The lucky ones who stumble upon them will have an item that will burn up eBay. They’ll just [...]

The Victim Card

John Edwards is getting a little paranoid. The stress of the campaign trial along with an ill spouse is playing with his mind. He thinks the chatter about his hair is all about them trying to get him, to shut him up.

[via Sister Toldjah]
Edwards is starting to look like a Rep. Ron Paul supporter. We’re [...]

Political Labels

Ever wonder why just about every Republican politician uses “Ronald Reagan” as an adjective to describe themselves? It’s not just about looking romantically at the past; it works:
On the other side of the ideological spectrum, being called politically conservative is considered a positive description by 32% and negative by 20%. It’s much better for a [...]

Novak: No Fan of the Blogosphere

Bob Novak knows one day he’ll die. And when he does “I’m going to a place where there are no blogs.”
Give him some slack. Novak is 76. He’s two or three generations behind when it comes to media. I’m sure if the blogosphere existed when he was starting out as a reporter he would have [...]

Save the Debate

I’ve added my name to this petition urging Republican Presidential candidates to take part in September’s CNN/YouTube debate. The only thing the candidates have to fear is their possible lack of political jujitsu. I know it sounds like self-help babble but the only way the debate will be a negative for candidates is if they [...]

Navy “Nerd” Drive Cross Country for Revenge Burning

Note to self: When on the internet don’t call anyone with the screen name “PyroDice” a “nerd.” You might get burned out of your home:
A Navy man who got mad when someone mocked him as a “nerd” over the Internet climbed into his car and drove 1,300 miles from Virginia to Texas to teach the [...]

GOP, Don’t Abandon YouTube Debate

The CNN/YouTube debate wasn’t horrible. Is was mildly worse than a townhall-style debate. There were a few video clips that were worthless (the snowman and the No Child Left Behind music video) and Anderson Cooper was kind enough not to make the candidates answer the redneck yucksters asking about AlGore. It could have been set-up [...]

Oscar the Death Cat

Even if you like cats stay away from Oscar. If you catch him curling up next to you make any last-minute updates to your will:
Oscar the cat has an uncanny knack for predicting when nursing home patients are going to die, curling up with them during their final hours.
His accuracy, seen in 25 cases, has [...]
