Catholic Church Disses Protestants; Don’t Expect Riots

by Sean Hackbarth

The Catholic Church considers itself the one, true Christian church on earth. That was reinforced with a document released calling Protestant denominations “ecclesial communities.” European Protestant leaders are upset and surprised. I’d be more surprised if the conservative Pope Benedict had watered down church doctrine to make the Catholic Church more inclusive.

Catholics and Protestants have disagreed about doctrine since the Reformation, and they will continue to clash.

What I can be sure of is Protestants won’t be rioting and demanding the Pope apologize like Muslims did when Benedict supposedly insulted them. Could you imagine a bunch of Anglicans burning the Pope in effigy?

Damn straight we’re the one, true church. All the rest are splitters!

Hey Kevin, aren’t you a member of the People’s Front of Judea?

At least Heaven won’t be crowded. With the Papists roasting in Hell with the Muslims and Mormons we Lutherans should be able to get a good parking space for the Friday night fish fry.

I hope the potato pancakes are really good.

No Josh, Judean People’s Front. Get it right.

SPLITTERS!

One hardly has to imagine; it’s sufficient, once in a while, to open a book about European history.

I’m well aware of Europe’s religious wars. I would have thought my implication that I was talking about the present age was apparent. I was mistaken.

What makes you think I wasn’t? Apparently you’ve forgotten about the brutal sectarian conflict that raged throughout northern Ireland and even in the streets of London at the latter part of the 20th century.
