Stop the Insanity

by Sean Hackbarth

MSNBC reports Michigan will move its primary to 01.15.08. It could be worse. They could have listened to Sen. Carl Levin who wants it on 01.08. These people have lost their minds. Moving Michigan means a good chance of pushing Iowa into 2007. Why don’t we go ahead and start things now in August? This is crazy. The positioning of such early primaries and caucuses means an even longer general election for voters to endure. 2008 was already set up to be the longest ever. The campaigns that get the nomination will have a real challenge maintaining the interest of voters for almost nine months.

The Republicans and Democrats need to get together and fix the primary creep. A good compromise would be to hold a national primary or a series of regional primaries sometime in March. Presidential campaigns would then start in the fall of the year before, and there wouldn’t be a fear of having campaigning bump into Christmas.

If this crap keeps up, we should just elect the president four years in advance.

Hell I’d hold the election right now if it meant it would take effect right now, and I think the vast majority of Americans would agree.

The AmSpec opinionatrix is desperate, I think.

Since primaries are for parties, not for elected office, the states should not be involved. Let the burden for party elections fall on the parties. They can do it any way they prefer, e.g. email, snailmail, internet, smoke filled room. The point is I don’t care. State run primaries are nothing but free advertisment for the parties and needs to stop now!

No more absurd that a million candidates, a zillion so-called “debates”, taking Q’s from freak UToobies, Dennis Kucinich, and Ron Paul.

Wake me in October.
