Vick to Plead Guilty to Dog Fighting Charges
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick agreed to plead guilty to dog fighting charges. He will come before a federal judge next week. He could serve up to five years in prison but pleading guilty should lessen the time. Vick’s lawyer issued this statement:
After consulting with his family over the weekend. Michael Vick ask that I announce today that he has reached an agreement with Federal prosecutors regarding the charges pending against him. Mr. Vick has agreed to enter a plea of guilty to those charges and to accept full responsibility for his actions and the mistakes he has made. Michael wishes to apologizes again to everyone who has been hurt by this matter. The legal team and Mr. Vick will appear in court in Richmond on August 27th.
If all goes as planned and Vick pleads guilty the ball rolls to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. Any conviction would certainly mean a suspension for Vick the question is would it be concurrent with his prison term or after he’s released.
Allahpundit oddly writes,
Exit question: Lifetime suspension? I can’t believe they’d torpedo one of the top two or three talents in the league.
Top two or three talents in the league? I don’t think so. LT, Larry Johnson, Payton Manning, and Shawne Merriman top Vick. Vick has plenty of athletic gifts and had the best rushing season for a quarterback in NFL history. But Atlanta has done little in the post-season with Vick leading, and when they were semi-successful it was due more to their crushing running attack and pretty-good defense rather than Vick’s arm.

He’s pleading in an attempt to avoid his singing partners’ testimony in open court.
But it won’t help him much; those details of his involvment will be out before he is. His birdies will tweet regardless. It won’t be pretty, and if the NFL lets this psycho back in it will be a very sad day for football.
