Romney Bows Out
In front of thousands of conservative activists Mitt Romney ended his run for the White House.
He talked about the importance of culture to a strong America noting the rise of government dependency and the explosion in out-of-wedlock births. He also talked about the need to restrain and cut government spending. For Romney that meant more than going after pork barrel projects and earmarks. It also meant tackling entitlements.
But Romney said the most important issue facing the nation right now is the Islamist War. On that he told the audience that the nation couldn’t afford Sens. Clinton or Obama to capitulate to the enemy.
From The Guardian:
“In this time of war I simply cannot let my campaign be a part of aiding a surrender to terror,” he told the Conservative Political Action Committee.
“Because I love America, in this time of war I feel I have to now stand aside for our party and for our country”
And with that Mitt Romney bowed out of the 2008 Presidential race yielding to Sen. John McCain. A full-blown endorsement might happen in Baltimore tonight.
Ed Morrissey and James Joyner both liveblogged Mitt’s speech.

Here’s some “straight talk” as I steel myself for a Democratic victory in November…
How can we use this GOP conservative base’s anger at McCain to rally and win control of both houses of Congress. I have not looked at the national picture. How does the field look? I am throwing up my hands at this presidential thing!
