The $100 Million Couple

Capitalism is a beautiful thing. Even a slime ball like Bill Clinton can make a fortune. “What a country!

The Clinton campaign pulled off the oldest political trick in the book and did a document dump on a Friday. To make reporters and political junkies suffer over the weekend the Clinton’s released their tax returns from 2000-2006 (they’ve filed an extension for 2007).

Over their post-White House years Bill and Hillary took in over $100 million. Most of that came from Bill’s speaking fees and book income.

By releasing these a Friday it implies Hillary wants to hide something. Maybe she only wants to brush the fact they’re quite wealthy from the blue collar voters she’s courting.

I’ve only noticed two minor tidbits:

  1. Being the good campaign socialists they are they consistently donated $3 to the Presidential election fund.
  2. They gave $10,256,741 to charity. That’s 9.5% of their income so they almost tithed. (Granted, it’s a higher percentage than other people earning $10 million or more.)

Which leaves John McCain as the only candidate not to release his tax returns.

I’m curious too. I’d like to see what percentage he gave to charity and the reaction (if any) from social conservatives.

I’m just curious if the media will now start giving McCain the same kind of grief they’ve been giving Clinton. More of that free ride, I guess. (There’s an Amazon partner link for you!)
