Obama Pinged Taxpayers
I’ll let others deal with whether Sen. Barack Obama taking a retainer and a campaign contribution from someone with business interests before Illinois state government was a sign of corruption or merely an instance of the infamous “appearance of impropriety.” I want to harp on the fact the State of Illinois thought it was a good idea to subsidize a ping-pong tournament. At least with a state of locality subsidizing a sports stadium you can make a “quality of life” argument or take the leap of faith that it’s an economic positive to the economy. But ping-pong? It’s a game American kids pick up at a Boys and Girls Club or at summer camp. They grow up and never encounter it again until their kids find out about it.
