Pop Art Obama

by Sean Hackbarth

Obama art

The nature of Sen. Barack Obama as icon is noticed by Jim Geraghty. Should Obama win the Presidency a niche market will quickly develop in the art world. Certainly historians will attempt to glean something of the zeitgeist from these centuries from now.

Ya know, dude’s got my vote, but i’ll be the first to point out that these t-shirts and designs are out of fracking hand.

I mean, at the end of the day, he’s still operating inside our homogenized “two”-party system. “Power to the People?” Don’t get me wrong, i like the guy, but that’s a little silly.

I bet the Obama is my Homeboy shirts are out already…

Obamamania is already pervasive in the world of “art quilts” (or “quilt art”, “textile art”, etc), second only to “ZOMG the Earth is being destroyed!” as a political subject.

At least they’ve stopped making “Bush is teh stoopid!” quilts.

The stencil Althouse captured (http://althouse.blogspot.com/2008/05/obama-on-6th-street.html) is much better, including as political commentary.

How perfectly fitting and Guevara-ish.

Didja ever notice how dictators, commies and Islamofascists (with a fat wink to the supposedly Koranic no-no of idolatry) always plaster the hillsides and metropolises with huge mug-shot posters of themselves?

Conversely, tmk that doesn’t occur in democracies.

Wondering why….
