Jesse Helms Dies
I don’t have anything to say about the death of Sen. Jesse Helms. I just never paid much attention to him. I probably bought into the idea that he was a white Southern racist and anti-gay. On the former his history is more complex.
Even with the controversy Helms generated it’s terrible for some Helms hater to push around a URL with the file name “good-riddance.” Disgusting.
There’s a misunderstanding on some right-wing weblogs that this was deliberately done by WRAL. A comment was left on JammieWearingFool that anyone can put additional characters after the story’s original URL and it will load correctly. I tested it, and that’s exactly what happens. So some Helm hater thought it would be cute to e-mail friends an opinionated URL. That person needs to spend more time outside by the grill.
