Cancelled Troops Visit Is All About One Man
While Sen. Barack Obama canceling a military base visit in Germany isn’t a big story it has legs. Much of it has to do with the multiple explanations the Obama campaign has given for the cancellation. The latest being:
“Even him going alone would likely be characterized by some as a political event,” Mr. Gibbs said in an interview on Monday, adding, “He decided not to put the troops in that position.”
But as the NY Times‘ Jeff Zeleny asks, “Why didn’t Mr. Obama leave his aides behind, even the retired general, and make the visit by himself?” How important is advisor Major Gen. Scott Gration (Ret.)?
This feels like a campaign brain fart where if Obama could go back in time he’d put up with Gration’s irritation and visit the troops. This story certainly isn’t a game-changer for Sen. McCain.
