Chinese Olympic Cheating

Gordon Chang on the Chinese ensuring they won the women’s team gymnastics gold medal:

Deng in the picture is all smiles. She and her comrades made history by winning gold last Wednesday, edging out the slightly favored Americans in the women’s team gymnastics competition. Officially, the sweet Ms. Deng was born on April 21, 1992. But the 4-foot-6, 68 pound wisp may have come into this world on May 22, 1993 — or perhaps even later.

Ms. Deng is not the only Chinese gymnast with multiple birthdates. In fact, the spotlight this year has fallen on three of her teammates: Jiang Yuyuan, Yang Yilin, and the especially infamous He Kexin. China’s official Xinhua News Agency listed Ms. He’s age as 13 on its website just nine months before the Olympics began. China Daily, the country’s official English-language paper, said on May 23 she was 14. Records on an official Chinese website show that Ms. He was born on January 1, 1994. Liu Peng, director of general administration of sport in China, last November publicly said that she was 13. Of course, none of this matters now — during the middle of February Beijing issued to Ms. He a passport showing her date of birth as January 1, 1992, thus making her eligible to compete. And a Chinese gymnastic official dismisses the Xinhua report as “a mistake.”

Then there’s the enabling International Olympic Committee who don’t want to investigate but are more than willing to condemn American superstar cheater Marion Jones. It’s like they assumed the Chinese Century started already.

It is a real shame the Chinese government decided to get caught-up in this scandal. I hope the proper investigations do occur; Roy Jones Jr. deserved the gold in Korea, yet was robbed it is happening all over again in Asia. I guarantee anyone that the Chinese will not win half the amount of gold medals in 2012 London. In fact they should be banned if they are found guilty of cheating, let’s just hope it’s not a slap on the hand like the NFL did with the New England, Patriots.

The Chinese cheating and lying about the ages of their girls was apparent. It is a known fact that youger girls perform better at certain elements of gymnastics, because they are shorter, lighter, more flexible, etc. However, rules are rules. Had the US sent 13-14 year old girls, they probably would have beaten the Chinese team to the dust. Instead, the US sent young women of 16 to 18 years of age. How can the US team of heavier and more mature young women compete with little flying monkeys? Even then, the US team performed much better than the Chinese team of little flying monkeys and the only reason the Chinese team got the gold medal is currupt judges, which is another aspect of rampant Olympic cheating by China.

The cheating is so blatant it has reached the level of absurdity.

I hope the Chinese are not allowed to host the Olympics again for a long time. They have done a terrible job.

Yeah, the arrogance is aggravating. The clutching at national self-esteem is embarrassing. But it’s games and sports. These are the same people that send shark carcasses (including whale sharks) to the bottom of the sea for their fins. They are abusive, predatory, and unapologetic. Using 12-year-olds and calling them 16. Yeah, they did and they dare anyone to call them on it. They’re DYING to use the clout of their ‘world power’ status. Can you tell?

The conscience of the average Chinese is such that regret is more likely for having missed an opportunity to scam than any qualms over ethics.

On another note: Nastia won the gold. Australian judge is an idiot.

The age issue is absurd enough, but the latest results from the Uneven bars & The vault is absolutely insane.

Both times a chineese girl fell to her knees on dismount, the first time she was given the EXACT same score as an American girl who did a better routine, flawlessly, AND THEN GIVEN THE GOLD.

On the vault, Chineese Gymnast Fei Cheng didn’t even bother to “fall” to her knees, she simply landed on them, and was given Bronze over American Alicia Sacrome

The judging that favored Chinese bobbles over other competitors’ finessed performances time and again was what galled most. Cheating was established before the games began when China revoked or denied visas to competitors.

Records on an official Chinese website show that Ms. He was born on January 1, 1994.

No, they got it wrong, this is the date that the child was removed from her parents home to join the Olympic training program… get it? She was borne into the official Chinese Olympic Team.

Anyone with half a brain can tell that those small faces and bodies are those of children, not mid-range teenagers. The Chinese are SO blatant about deleting original documents that expose true birthdates (who knows? maybe even the ‘original’ dates are lies) and then staring straight-faced at the world and saying those records were a mistake. Now only the records they’re willing to show us are True… ha! Whoever believes could probably be sold a beautiful seaside lot in Tulsa, Oklahoma for a million dollars. Let us hope the Chinese aren’t allowed at the next Olympics. They’re cheaters. The people seem nice and genuine, but their government is shameful.

Listen people, stop wasting your time fuming over this. This is the PRC, what the heck do you expect? We are speaking about a totalitarian regime that brainwashes its own people to think they are victims of the World. A lot of the population can’t even do basic constructive criticism of their own nation. They got their medals, they cheated to get them, there is no way to come up with proof on the age of these children though. So let them have their medals that took cheating to get; as Nastia’s father put it very well, shame on them. In the end they have placed upon them more shame then they ever dreamt of..

[…] I watched with dedication, but the cheating soured me.  I LOVE the games, and am tremendously loyal to Team USA.  I really shouldn’t let China’s dedication to disheartening dishonesty destroy my dedication to delve enjoyment from the greatest competition on Earth.  But my disappointment is not all for loss.  That my faith could be shattered so thoroughly, let’s me know that I still harbor a deep sense of faith in a concept of integrity in the games - else I would not be so let down.  It is terrible that there are Olympiads that deserved to wear medals yet did not.  And not just Americans, but all true, honest competitors.  No doubt 2012 in London will be marked by more  pronouncedly competent government direction.
