Alaska Delegate Talks About Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin

I spoke with Bill Knowles, Alaska delegate to the Republican National Convention and former mayor of Seward, about Sen. John McCain picking Gov. Sarah Palin as his Vice Presidential candidate. Knowles told me his wasn’t surprises with the initial reaction from Republicans. She has a “freshness” and “star power” but a “normal American appeal” that gave her an 80% approval rating in Alaska. Her success comes from always being underestimated and a focus and dedication that “comes from the heart.”

As to the Left’s charge that Palin lacks something because she was a mayor of a small city Knowles told me they should be careful. Mayors make decisions everyday. He contrasted that with the Senate which “is a different club.”

As for the Palin family’s announcement that their oldest daughter Bristol is pregnant Knowles wasn’t surprised at the positive reaction conservatives have given the family. He “wouldn’t have expected any other reaction.” The Palins show so much love for their family that it’s reflected in their new-found supporters.

Doesn’t Wasilla have a City Manager style government? So the Mayor is just another vote on the Council then, right?
