Can We Ask?

We know Sen. Obama isn’t fond of taking a lot of questions from reporters. Soaring speeches full of warm, fuzzy feelings is his game. Yet he aspires to the Presidency. So the Republican National Committee created CanWeAsk.com to let anyone, even a “bitter” person who “clings” to guns and religion submit a video or text […]

Exploiting Waffles

Michael Turk offers some ideas for how Sen. John McCain’s campaign could have taken advantage of Sen. Barack Obama’s waffle quip:
# If you’re John McCain, wherever you are, convene a breakfast of local bloggers the next morning. Call it “The Waffle Side chat” and ask them to come sit down with you and talk issues […]

There’s Hope for McCain’s Online Woes

Allahpundit linked to a story on Sen. McCain’s online fundraising woes. I left a comment and am getting some response so I want to expand the discussion to TAM.
McCain’s two problems have been 1) he hasn’t done much to reach out to conservatives. Don’t expect red meat attacks from the Senator to rile up the […]

PodCamp DC: Social Media and Journalism

Posting has been a problem. Like most of these free New Media events wif coverage is sporadic.
I’ve been sitting through an interesting discussion of social media tools and journalism. There are plenty of interesting examples of how new technology is dispersing coverage.
Any campaign can and should look at these tools to augment how their supporters […]

Al Franken Out of Touch on Gas Tax

Al Franken doesn’t think people would notice a 5-10 cent gas tax increase. Talk about being out of touch. Sen. Norm Coleman and a few Minnesotans would disagree.

It’s a good use of web video to make a good point. Taxes are high enough the way they are. The last thing government should do in a […]

An Obama Minute

Some of Sen. Barack Obama’s supporters want to crank the money bomb idea up a notch by building a site, An Obama Minute, capable of raising $1 million in one minute:
As the Democratic Presidential hopefuls approach Pennsylvania’s Apr. 22 vote, Senator Barack Obama’s (D-Ill.) campaign, trailing in statewide polls, is set to get a shot […]

McCain Only Rakes in $4 Million Online

Marc Ambinder reports on Sen. John McCain’s March fundraising. If you’re a Republican who wants to retain the White House in November you should be disappointed.

$15 million total. $11 million from traditional fundraisers and only $4 million from the internet.
McCain’s finance team has shifted their focus to raising $100 million for the RNC Victory Fund.
McCain […]

Fred Thompson Spotted in Vegas

After a couple months away from the spotlight of a Presidential campaign Fred Thompson appeared in Las Vegas to speak at the CTIA Wireless 2008 Conference. Both Thompson and John Edwards spoke about their experiences running for President. Both mentioned how technology has transformed coverage of the Presidential races. Edwards said candidates and staff have […]

Hope.net Hack April Fools Joke

Here’s an explanation for the hijinks with Hope.net:
2600 Magazine’s Off the Hook radio show on WBAI in New York (streaming online as well, find it yourself) just announced that it was indeed an April Fool’s Joke which began when April Fool’s Day started in New Zealand (which is 18 hours ahead of EDT.)
They’ve had hope.net […]

Hope.net no longer goes to a hacked Barack Obama page. It now redirects to thelasthope.org, a website for a hacker conference in New York City sponsored by magazine 2600.

Hope.net’s WHOIS information has also changed:

Matt Lira Joining McCain

The McCain campaign is building up its eCampaign staff. David All reports Rep. Eric Cantor’s new media guru Matt Lira will become Sen. John McCain’s webmaster. I’ve never met Matt, but he’s done enough online things to make a good addition for McCain.
I don’t know if getting Patrick Hynes to post on the campaign weblog […]

Hope.net Hacked Again

Hope.net has been vandalized again.

The text reads:
Mr. Obama, what you waiting for?
This page hacked yesterday
and still your site wide open
not true for Hillary.
Yesterday, the hacker posted a second message.

It reads:
To the media!
Stop saying Clinton hacked Obama
They want nothing to do with this
You spread lies
Being April Fools Day I’m wary of jumping to any conclusions unlike […]

Google.co.uk Goes Black

In an example of symbolism over substance Google turned its home back to black to support Earth Hour. That’s a campaign asking people to turn off their lights for one hour on Saturday to promote energy conservation. One. Measly. Hour.
To actually save some energy Google could shut down one of its energy-eating data centers. […]

McCain Blogette

What happens when the candidate’s daughter’s weblog is better than her dad’s?
A Meghan McCain’s weblogging efforts finally garnered media attention. The AP is the latest of series of stories including GQ’s weblog and lengthy profile in the Washington Post.
Her light offerings of fashion and pop culture bring levity to the campaign trail. Meghan combines that […]
