Elian Gonzalez: 10 Years Later

Ten years ago today, federal agents pulled young Elian Gonzalez out of the home of relatives. This led to him being returned to Communist Cuba:

The Elian Gonzalez story was my first weblogging obsession. I recall staying up way too late at night pouring over news stories, writing up analysis, then hand-coding them in HTML to [...]

10 Years of Weblogging

The traditional gift for a 10th wedding anniversary is aluminum. This little weblog is now 10 years old. That explains the aluminum can wall picture above.
I’m not sure how to begin this post, so I asked for help on Twitter. I wasn’t let down:
@haystack: “Still crazy after all these years” ???
@Xavier: “it was a dark [...]

Robert Stacey McCain Investigate Bill Sparkman Murder

Robert Stacey McCain traveled to Kentucky to investigate the death of Bill Sparkman. Unlike some on the Left who jumped to the conclusion that it stemmed from anti-government hatred, McCain actually talked to locals and has a different, less ideologically tinged theory. This is great reporting and sets a good example for the Rightwing blogosphere. [...]

Constraints on Webloggers

As more and more webloggers get involved with politicians, campaigns, and advocacy groups there will be more conflicts between the weblogger’s view and the mission of the organization they’re working for. The only thing that really surprises me about the Matthew Yglesias incident with the Center for American Progress Action Fund is CAPAF’s Jennifer Palmieri [...]

Befriend Webloggers

I may be a political flack, but I don’t see myself as that. Dealing with webloggers and online activists is the latest form of public relations, but instead of pumping out press releases and schmoozing with reporters I communicate with people who mostly weblog, podcast, or use socnets as a hobby. Full-time, professional online content [...]

2008 Weblog Awards Nominations

For the first time in a few years I’m not asking readers to nominate TAM for the Weblog Awards. The past year and a half has been too busy (with working for Fred Thompson and now the Senate Republican Caucus) to believe I deserve an award. But if you know any deserving weblogs nominations are [...]

Dean Barnett, R.I.P.

A strong voice in the conservative blogopshere left us today. Dean Barnett passed away at the age of 41. Sadly for me I never got the chance to meet or talk with Dean. But he was prolific enough on his own weblog as well as that of Hugh Hewitt’s and The Weekly Standard’s that I [...]

TAM Recommended

Tee Bee’s being extra snarky griping that the Wisconsin Conservative Digest isn’t sufficiently linking to conservative weblogs. Thanks for recommending TAM along with a bunch of other great weblogs.

Wisconsin Weblogger to Moderate Debate

If any of you are in the Germantown, WI area in a few weeks you’ll have to check out the Fifth Congressional District GOP Forum. It will be moderated by none other than Owen Robinson. It’s the first time I know of where a weblogger is moderating a debate/forum for a federal race.

Gard in Great Position to Topple Kagen

A Public Opinion Strategies poll declares the WI-08 Congressional race between John Gard and Rep. Steve Kagen a statistical dead-heat. Kagen leads Gard 46%-42% with a 4.9% margin-of-error. Pollster Gene Ulm [PDF] pointed out a few interesting tidbits from the numbers:

Undecided voters are “pre-disposted to vote against Kagen.”
Sen. John McCain leads Sen. Barack Obama in [...]

General Encourages Weblogging; Weblog Causes Trouble in Yemen

A couple stories on weblogs came across my radar the last few days. First, Lt. Gen. William Caldwell, head of the Combined Arms Center [CAC] and Ft. Leavenworth has assigned his faculty and students to weblog:
Lt. Gen. William Caldwell, who heads the Combined Arms Center [CAC] and Ft. Leavenworth, told his soldiers in a recent [...]

Jim Doyle Signs Worthless Piece of Paper with U.K.

Owen Robinson spotted announcement that Gov. Jim Doyle signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the United Kingdom involving climate change. He thinks it’s unconstitutional. From my glance it looks more like feel-good symbolism over substance. It “encourages collaboration between Wisconsin and the U.K. in researching and sharing new technologies, experiences, and solutions, as well as [...]
